To say Jonathan was envious was true. Seeing you pass by all bright and joyful was a sight to see from his little shell, and he aspired to be as charismatic and sane as you once he got out of this town.

As far as he knew, your life was perfect. You had the money, you had the parents, you had the looks… You had everything, and the most expensive things he owned was a rusty old camera and a radio.

He wasn’t sure if it was admiration, jealousy or hatred, but there was something he felt about you that made him stare whenever you passed by his side.

Your smile was a constant reminder that he was an outcast, that he was a failure. You wouldn’t understand an inkling of what he’s gone through, and that was his only comfort.

It was today afternoon when he was sitting on the benches, eating his lunch. He’s never used the cafeteria tables; Nobody would sit with him and it was just a waste of space.

Today was when he had to pause his chewing to look up at a figure approaching him. He knew pretty well who it was, but he couldn’t quite understand what you were doing here.

“Can I sit here?” You pointed at the spot next to him, your contagious cheerfulness contaminating the breeze surrounding him.

“Er, sure.” He awkwardly replied, frowning in obvious confusion. “Why though?”
