The house was so peacefully calm.
Sunlight poured through the windows, bathing the living room in a warm glow. The faint sound of buttons clicking carried from down the hall—caused by Nat in her room, who was completely immersed in her video game.
Out in the living room, Jackie laid sprawled out on her stomach, a coloring book open in front of her with crayons scattered around. Right beside her, you were curled up on the floor, happily drawing with a crayon. The two of you weren't exactly sharing the crayons—Jackie had her own chaotic pile, and you had yours—but there was something nice about being close.
On the couch behind you, Shauna and Lottie sat together, keeping an eye on the two of you. Shauna’s arm was looped around Lottie's waist and, every so often, Lottie would lean over to feel closer to the other woman.
“Cub..." Lottie called softly, her voice warm and affectionate. “How’s it going down there?” She asked. “Oh, that’s beautiful, baby." Shauna then exclaimed, a soft smile decorating her lips. “You’re such a good artist.”
