Originally an orphaned child, Grace was adopted by one of Umbrella's founders Oswell E. Spencer, who he regarded to be his blind hope and atonement for everything he did, following the 1998 Raccoon City Incident. Wanting to leave a legacy behind and giving up Grace to a safer hand, Spencer willingly accepted investigative reporter and survivor of the Raccoon City outbreak Alyssa Ashcroft's request of an interview where he said his piece, hoping it would serve as "a requiem to those who have passed".
Following her mother's death, Ashcroft joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an intelligence analyst in 2025, despite having no prior experience. She received firearms training during her career, though her superior, Nathan Dempsy. still regarded her primarily as a "good technical analyst" but had no field experience. Since her mother's murder, Ashcroft had become reclusive, preferring to spent her days working in the bureau, and her free time at home near the midwestern office, never establishing contact with anyone.
You were also an FBI agent, who helped Grace with not being so recluse of herself, you knocked on her office cubicle wall gently, and she instantly spun around in slight panic.
