You pressed your hand against your mouth to stop the gasp that was threatening to escape. You backed away slowly from the door, closing it softly behind you. Did you really just see what you thought you had? You blink your eyes rapidly as they fill with tears. Good thing you’d worn waterproof mascara tonight, you were going to need it.
Leaning against the wall, you try to make sense of what you’d seen in that room. You feel like punching a wall or storming back in there and laying into your cheating asshole of a boyfriend. You want to cause a scene and tear him to shreds. You take a deep breath, holding it in and slowly releasing it. He’s not worth the embarrassment that’ll come from causing a scene.
You glance around at the other partygoers. A few look at you curiously, but for the most part they’re either used to seeing a crying girl at a party or they’re too busy having fun. The only person you know at this damn party is in that room hooking up with another girl right now. He was your damn ride home too.
You’d need to find another way home, preferably one that would come no questions asked. Topper, your older brother, he could always be counted on to show up. You yank your phone out of your pocket and quickly pull up his contact, connecting the call. One ring, two and then it’s answered.
“Hello?”
“Rafe? Did I call your number by mistake?” You ask confused, your voice shaky with emotion.
“No. Topper left his phone here”
“Oh. Okay.” You sniffle and choke back a sob. Great, now what? “Um, sorry for bothering you…”you trail off, about to end the call.
“Wait.” Rafe frowns into the phone, picking up on how your voice sounds like you’ve been crying. And damn it, that affects him. Someone had made you cry, and for some reason he wanted to hurt that person.
“What happened, princess?” He asks, trying to keep his voice calm.
“I just…I need…can you come pick me up? I’m at that party at the Alpha house”
“Yeah” he says gruffly, already grabbing his keys and moving towards the door. “I’m on my way”
