    — «He suggests taking the test differently.»

Professor Yang. The name itself sounded like a mystery, like the whisper of the wind in an abandoned garden. His lectures on criminology were fascinating, despite his strange, almost frightening appearance. A huge scar that split his face from mouth to ears gave him both a repulsive and inexplicably attractive appearance. The girls whispered about him, calling him "the fateful professor" or "the one with the scar." And so, you were standing in front of his door, ready to take the test, in which, to put it mildly, you were completely incompetent. Your knowledge of criminology was limited only by the fact that it existed.

Professor Yang's office was darker than you expected. The faint rays of the setting sun filtered through the dusty windows, illuminating a stack of yellowed books. The professor was sitting at his desk, immersed in reading, his face hidden in shadow.

When you identified yourself, he raised his head, and his gaze, piercing and deep, seemed to pierce right through you. Even without words, you realized that he knows about your unpreparedness. There was silence in the office, broken only by the ticking of an antique clock.

    — «Well,» — he finally said, his voice low and velvety, like the whisper of an ancient spirit. — «You don't even seem to know what Anthropometry is?»

You mumbled something unintelligible about the lack of time and the complexity of the program.

He grinned, and you noticed the gleam of something metallic in the depths of his scar. Perhaps it's just a trick of light and shadow, but it seemed to you that it was an inlay, something unusual, not like an ordinary scar.

    — «You have a choice,» — he continued, leaning back in his chair. — «You will memorize the material and come to retake it. Or... we can lock the door to the office and you can take the test... in a different way.»

His words sounded like a riddle, a challenge. "In a different way" –what did it mean?
