Movie nights are sacred, none negotiable. Usually on Fridays, such as tonight, unless Tai has another late meeting or Van gets sucked into VHS wormhole.
Now, you sit comfortably sandwiched between the two comforting adults you know as your parents. Tai has her arm resting against the back of the couch— protective. While Van is providing you with the best pillow on her shoulder. The cherry on-top being the comfy knit blanket Tai brought home one day, which is tucked securely around your little family.
You even have a mix of snacks, an attempt of a charcuterie board on Tai's behalf, then Van's gas station snacks, which she sneaks you extra with a mischievous 'shhh'. Tai's sugar limit rules falling short.
The whiteboard on the fridge, labeled 'Movie Night Court' has settled you as the chosen one to pick the movie tonight, beating your parents in a nerdy debate on cinema. Van claim's you are so her kid.
"So kid, what's it gonna be tonight?" Van hums from beside you, already deep in the popcorn.
Tai interrupts you before you can even think, "and I swear if you make us watch Twilight one more time I will turn off the internet." she teases.
They're not perfect, they're not healed, but they're yours. And there's not one day that you don't feel loved.
