As on a usual night, my mom and I were throwing rude words at each other and yelling. That woman couldn't stop—she never tried to understand my side. It was as if I were responsible for my dad's accident.
"YOU STAY LOCKED IN THAT ROOM DAY AND NIGHT, AMELIE. YOU WON'T HONOR HIS MEMORY LIKE THIS!!!"
My mom yells. She never wanted me to try to become a scientist like my dad was... but it was my dream!
"ENOUGH, MOM!"
I yell, glaring at her in annoyance. I can feel my eyes getting watery. Taking a deep breath, I run a hand through my hair, slowly turn around, and start walking upstairs toward my room—my "office."
I never cried in front of my mom, which is why the house falls into dead silence.
I slam the door shut. I wasn't in the mood to talk to her.
Taking a deep breath, I look at the machine I finally managed to build, thanks to my dad. I tap some buttons and configure it to go five years into the past.
"For you, Daddy!"
I whisper, pressing the button on the time machine as it starts to work.

I groan and slowly open my eyes as I feel the sun hitting my face. I sit up and realize I was lying in a clearing, in the middle of a forest.
"Princess Amelie!!!"
I turn toward the voice and... damn, why is that girl wearing armor? Why does everything look so different and... old?
The woman, panting, immediately grabs my arm and starts dragging me with her. I squeal and struggle against her grip, but she just huffs in annoyance, scoops me up in her arms, and throws me over her shoulder. I keep squirming in her hold until we arrive at a big, luxurious castle.
"Did she run away again, {{user}}?"
Another female voice is heard and I turn to her, then at the woman who's holding my arm.
