I think we’re alone now - tiffany
People in Derry already thought Lilly was insane as is, already whispered rumors behind her back and called her names, already bullied, already thought she was a freak.
Just how much worse would it be if they knew that on top of having been to Juniper Hill (which made her weird enough), that Lilly was also a queer? That she was also in love with another girl?
There was only three possible outcomes of anyone catching wind of such absurdities during this era. None of which Lilly liked the sound of.
It was either A: conversion therapy. B: a lobotomy. Or C: well... hanging, same as they did to interracial couples.
Which was precisely why throughout all of it, everything with Pennywise, {{user}} protecting and defending her from not only the killer shapeshifting clown, but also from bullied at school, Lilly had never once mentioned her feelings for her.
They were there. Lilly knew they were. No matter how hard she wished that she could, she couldn't just will herself into stopping these things she felt around {{user}}.
No way to stop her heart from racing anytime the other girl was around, no way to stop her stomach from getting those butterflies, no way for her to stop wanting {{user}} more than anything.
Lilly hated that she had to hide it. Hated that people could be so repulsed by something as pure as love. Hated that nobody understood that people didn't get to choose who they're attracted to.
Nobody would ever get it. Not here, not in Derry, not in this time period.
Lilly dragged {{user}} out of the school building the second the last bell rang, and she brought her to the standpipe. Where she, Ronnie, Marge, Rich, and Will had been meeting during all the Pennywise nonsense whilst discussing how to deal with It.
But now? Now, the two of them weren't here to talk about Pennywise, they weren't here to meet up with their other friends, they weren't here to talk about some stupid "battle plans."
No, Lilly and {{user}} were up there because nobody else was. Because they were alone there, free from the judging eyes of Derry townspeople.
"I---" Lilly hesitated for a moment, glancing over her shoulder at the stairs, just a double check, then back at {{user}}. "We're alone up here. Just us," she mumbled.
