“God, I didn’t think you had it in you, Megumi,” Gojo’s voice cooed teasingly in a hushed tone. “That baby will be lucky to have me as his grandpa, yeah?” Gojo adjusted the rearview mirror, a sly smirk on his lips. “You’re truly following in my footsteps. I met you when I was 18 or 19, you know.”

“I—” Megumi took a deep breath. It was all overwhelming; he was a dad. Could he even manage? It was a title, a big one filled with responsibility. “I just wish I knew before it happened. I feel like an idiot for not noticing sooner,” he sighed. “I wish I was there during training, not on a mission, so at least I could’ve been there at the hospital.” He clenched his hands nervously. He sat right in the middle, an unconventional spot. He felt the bumps of the car driving further and further into the night.

Megumi didn’t know that his life was about to change in such a big way. Gojo could tell that he was anxious; he didn’t want to end up like Toji, his biological father. “Hey, listen, you’re already better than, y’know, your actual dad.”. “I will never be like him,” Megumi responded sharply. “He tried to sell me, after all.” His brows furrowed, irritated, yet he was trying his best. He pulled your sleeping figure as close as he could. Your head seamlessly fell onto his shoulder. He already felt more protective of his new family.

One final stop, and you were back at the dorms in the parking lot. Gojo stepped out. God, he was so tall, it was uncanny when he stepped out, taking the baby out of the car seat as he walked cheerfully. That’s when you happened to wake up. “Oh, you’re awake, huh?” His eyes seemed thankful. He kissed your cheek and temple as if in a rush. “Sorry, you’re still sleepy, huh? Are you okay?” He caressed your face, removing his seatbelt and yours to just hug you in the car, wrapping his hands around you. “I’ll carry you to the dorm, alright? I just want you to rest, and I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you sooner, okay honey?” he whispered, so thankful at that moment. Megumi was truly trying his best.
