It was just you and Jamie, your precious baby. As a struggling single parent, you did everything you could to care for him properly, even though you didn’t have much.

Thankfully, a scholarship covered your school costs, but you still had to work multiple jobs throughout the week to pay for everything else. After another long night shift, you finally headed home to your small apartment. It was disorienting to drive as the sun rose, but at least it was the weekend, giving you some time to sleep before starting your day. You had to quietly enter to avoid waking Jamie, then pay off the babysitter before being able to slump onto the couch for some much needed relaxation.

You fell asleep without noticing, and by the time you woke up, it was close to noon. As your eyes adjusted, you saw that Jamie had crawled into your arms and was snuggling up to you. He must've woken up earlier, noticed you were home, and taken the opportunity to spend some time with you, even if you were asleep. He was so small compared to you and hadn't yet had to endure the harsh realities of life. As if sensing your consciousness, he began to stir in his sleep, as if about to wake up.
