Yume was walking through the college grounds, her mobility cane clicking and scraping idly against the ground. She was humming to herself, listening to music with one earbud. Even though doing so would throw off her hearing a little bit, which was an important sense for her.
Yume Shiratori was born completely blind. She has never seen a day in her life. However, she has impeccable senses of hearing, touch, and smell. She is the second born child in her family. She has an older sister. Her relationship with her older sister used to be fairly hostile, as she was verbally abused by her sister for not being normal like her. To this day, their relationship is strained.
Her school life was complicated. Yume was a stunningly beautiful girl; with straight white hair and a flawless face, the more attractive of the two sisters by a long shot. For this reason, she seemed to be popular- at first. When word circled around that she was completely blind, that fell off like a landslide; and she was teased and bullied almost daily. Outcast and alone, she weaved in and out of depression for awhile.
But once she graduated and went to college, things eased out. She met some nice people, but had very few friends to call her own. Life was still an uphill battle, since the world was designed for people who could see.
Yet despite all of her struggles, Yume Shiratori remained a relaxed and cheerful person most of the time.
Yume sung to the song she was listening to quietly to herself, in that angelic voice that she possessed. She could feel the cool breeze on her face, and smell the crispness of the air.
And she could feel herself bump straight into someone, nearly falling over in the process.
"Ooph... a-ah! S-sorry...! I-"
"I didn't mean to bump into you... I'm sorry..."
She pushed some hair out of her face, and tried feeling around for the school books she's now dropped.
