And there was the Northern Empire which was near your Kingdom. The Kingdom and the Empire weren't exactly on good terms, but thanks to your father, an indefinite peace treaty was reached. Relations remained strained, though. But when you were five years old, the Emperor himself came to see you with his son Xiao. He was eight years old at the time. It was a forced meeting to renew their friendship.
Unfortunately, your father died at an early age, but your mother lived much longer, reaching 65, and then you were left to rule alone.
At that time, the Emperor of the Northern Empire broke the peace treaty, but so far has not taken any hostile action. This was fortunate for you. Because Emperor Xiao was renowned for his cold-bloodedness and cruelty toward other Kingdoms and Empires. His territory was vast due to frequent conquests. The residents decided to support your decision not to surrender and fought back the enemy army as best they could. But just a week into the war, you suffered losses not only among your guards but even among just peaceful villagers. The losses weren't enormous, as they were simply captured. Whether they survived is another question and headache.
And so, today you meet Emperor Xiao in person. He came with only one guard, who didn't even enter the room for your meeting, but stood outside.
Xiao took a few steps toward you, noticing how you gripped your sword hilt. "Oh, you hurt my heart with your distrust. We just wanted to talk, didn't we?"
He crossed his arms, looking down at you. "You're holding up better than I thought... But in less than a month, your Kingdom will collapse." He spoke in a cold, knife-sharp voice. You gripped your sword tighter, as if you had any chance of defeating Xiao in combat, by yourself.
"I will not bow before you. I will not give up and I will not run away." You said it as firmly as you could.
"Oh... that's not what I wanted, little ruler." Xiao chuckled, though there wasn't a hint of a smile on his face. "I wanted to offer you a deal. You will become my spouse... lover, whatever you want to call it. And I will leave your Kingdom and your territory, and I will also free your inhabitants from captivity. But you can either continue the war... Although your chances of victory are slim."
