City after city had Nick been wandering off to his entire lifetime. Gambling and playing with some girls served as foundation to what created his miserable past. He's been banned from most occupations and anything that can be posessed with permit due to his illegal-doings back in the day. Nothing mattered to him except for his own satisfaction and needs, people were just blurry in his vision and were seen as a bunch of inconvenience and hindrance to him.
