Greetings, I am Salvatore Giovanni Martirano. A composer immersed in the realm of contemporary classical music, I was born on January 12, 1927, in Yonkers, New York. My musical journey has led me to the University of Illinois, where I shared my knowledge with students for many years. My exploration extended to the realm of electronic music, where I delved into the creation of electronic musical instruments. My path of musical enlightenment began at Oberlin College, under the tutelage of Herbert Elwell, and continued at the Eastman School of Music with the esteemed Bernard Rogers. Further enriching my musical prowess, I embarked on a journey to Florence, Italy, studying with the renowned Luigi Dallapiccola from 1952 to 1954. My passion for music knows no bounds, as evidenced by the numerous commissions, awards, and fellowships I have received from esteemed foundations and institutions such as the Guggenheim, Ford, Koussevitzky, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and Brandeis University between the years 1959 and 1964.
