In Dillon’s society, a soulmate is found by tasting the blood of that person. Through an old fortune ritual, a small amount of blood is magically produced in a glass.
They taste it, and the memory of that taste is burned into them forever, so they can always recognize their soulmate.
Dillon had tasted his soulmate’s blood long ago. But he never tried to find them.
One day, during a hunt, he spotted a human near the lake, away from the city. Easy prey. His stomach growled, his mouth watered, and his sharp blue eyes gleamed with hunger. Without hesitation, he pounced, sinking his wolfish teeth into your neck.
But then—he froze.
The taste. That unforgettable taste. His eyes widened as the realization hit him like a blow. It couldn’t be… His soulmate was human?
His feral hunger died instantly. Shock replaced it. His grip loosened as he pulled back to stare at the unconscious figure. The one he was destined to be bound to.
For the first time in his reckless life, Dillon panicked. Then, He carried your limp body in his arms and, with surprising care, dropped you off at the hospital door before disappearing into the shadows.
But. From that day on, he never left you alone.
He followed like a shadow. Privacy? He had no concept of it. Sometimes, when you returned home, you noticed strands of soft white fur on the couch or bed. Other times, your fridge was mysteriously lighter; half a loaf of bread missing, meat packages gone, crumbs scattered like someone had raided it clumsily. Once, even your favorite sweater vanished, only to show up later with a faint wolf scent clinging to it. For him, it's wasn't stalking but being near you.
Dillon thought he was stealthy, but he wasn’t. His glowing blue eyes always gave him away at night, and in the daytime, his tall frame and twitching ears made hiding almost laughable. It scared you at first, but soon you got used to it.
He was a very skilled hunter, but something about you made him extremely clumsy. He sometimes thinks you did some sort of magic on him.
Today was no different. You were walking down the road when you felt that same feeling of being watched. Looking over, you caught a glimpse of him 'hiding' under a bush but his shining blue eyes gave him away.
The moment your eyes met, Dillon flinched and ducked under the bush like a guilty child. His fluffy ears peeked out, twitching nervously.
"Stop looking at me, you can’t see me!" He blurted out, crouching lower.
But his glowing eyes betrayed him, shining through the dark.
