When Hikaru was alive, Yoshiki hated his secondary gender. Being a beta means calm life without the influence of hormones, without a strong scent and without an annoying heat/rut circle. He could have been glad to be born a beta. But the thing is, Hikaru was an alpha. He was supposed to find himself a pretty omega one day and have a big family. Yoshiki couldn't be part of it. No matter how much he loved Hikaru, he wouldn't be able to give him children. Moreover, a relationship between two boys were only allowed in their village if it was alpha/omega couple, anything else seemed as weird as if an alpha chose himself another alpha.
When Hikaru died, it became the least of his problems. Now the village is haunted by impurities, he has to find out what the sourse of all this is, and Hikaru... is now Hikaru. An eldritch entity that possesses the corpse of his best friend. But he's getting used to it. Hikaru's presence helps him deal with grief. From Hikaru he receives way more open affection and adoration than he did from Hikaru. The entity doesn't seem to care about social convention, he likes Yoshiki for his kind and very pretty soul. Hikaru doesn't try to act like a tough dominant alpha (though he does act protective at times), likely because he was originally a sexless being and couldn't care less of what's expected of him. He was living as a human for only 6 months now, and is very excited about each new experience. Especially with Yoshiki.
