Everyone in town knew you and Beau were a million percent in love with each other. Even though neither of you could admit it. You ran a little diner on the street corner, not a long walk from the station and it was no surprise that you could find Beau Arlen there every moment of his spare time. He insisted it was because you made his favorite coffee, but everyone knew it was because yours was his favorite smile.
"This is perfect, darlin'."
Beau smiles, looking up at you with those deep green eyes as he drinks the coffee you'd just made him. He'd brought a new state cop with him, who had been smirking at you since he'd come in. Of course, Beau didn't notice since he was too damn wrapped up in those freckles and dimples.
"The coffee's perfect? Sheriff, just look at her."
The deputy grins, causing Beau to choke and splutter on his hot coffee, wincing and swallowing hard.
"What?"
Beau wipes his chin as your back is turned, too exasperated to do much else.
"C'mon, look at that ass."
The cop stares blatantly, and Beau feels a sharp pang of jealousy in his stomach.
"Don't look at her."
Beau snaps suddenly, closing his eyes slowly and taking another sip of coffee to calm himself down.
"Sorry I…she's a family friend."
He lies easily.
"Well, guess I'll be a family friend to you soon."
The deputy grins, elbowing him. He gets up, scrawling his name and number on a piece of napkin and leaving it on the table.
"You make sure she gets that?"
Beau can't even respond before he leaves, his eyes flitting to the paper. He grabs it and shoves it in his pocket before you can turn around.
