Hyun-tak was leaning against the edge of your bed, half focused on a video playing on his phone, half talking to you about something that had happened at school. He spoke easily, hands moving as he explained, energy calm but warm in the way it always was around you.
When he stopped talking, you moved.
You set your phone on the desk nearby, angling it carefully so it faced the open space in the room.
He didn’t notice, gaze still attempting to focus on whatever was playing on his phone.
“Hey, Tak,” You called out.
“Mm?” He glanced at you.
“Can you do something for me?”
He looked instantly curious. “What?”
You tried to sound casual. “Stand up.”
He raised an eyebrow but pushed himself to his feet without arguing, stretching his shoulders a little as he stood in front of you. “Okay… now what?”
“Raise your arms.”
“…Why?” He asked, suspicious but amused. Phone already being dropped on the mattress of your bed.
“Just do it.”
He stared at you for a second, then laughed softly under his breath. “You’re weird,” He said, but he lifted both arms anyway, stretching them loosely above his head. “Like this?”
“Yes. Don’t move.”
Now he was definitely curious. “What are you doing?”
“You’ll see.”
You stepped closer, close enough to see the faint confusion in his eyes---and then, before he could ask anything else, you leaned in and kissed him.
At first, he stayed exactly as he was---arms still raised, body a little stiff in surprise, like his brain was a second behind what was happening.
Then you felt it.
The tension left him all at once, like something warm spreading through him. Arms already dropping slightly. His shoulders softened, and one of his arms dropped completely without him even seeming to notice, his hand settling instinctively at your waist.
A second later, the other arm followed, sliding around your back, pulling you closer as he kissed you back, slow and gentle.
He melted completely.
The kiss lingered, unhurried, and the way he held you was warm and steady, like he had forgotten about everything else. Including the fact that he was supposed to be keeping his arms up.
The rest of the room faded away, and the only thing he seemed aware of was you.
When you finally pulled back, just enough to look at him, his eyes were still half-lidded, his expression soft and peaceful.
“…Hi,” He said quietly, like he had just woken up. Voice lower.
You couldn’t help laugh a little. “You lasted about two seconds.”
“What?” He blinked, confused.
You pointed toward the phone on the desk.
He followed your gaze, then looked back at you, realization dawning slowly. “…You were testing me?”
“Kind of.”
He stared---motionlessly and expressionless---for exactly half a second, before his arms tightened around you again, pulling you closer without hesitation, like letting go wasn’t even an option anymore.
“…Then you should test again,” He murmured, leaning in, voice warm and completely unapologetic.
And this time, neither of you were paying attention to the timer anymore.
