You walked along a narrow forest path, the soft earth pleasantly springing under your feet. The air was fresh, smelled of pine needles and damp leaves. The guy walked you to the entrance to the forest, but he had to leave - the coach did not forgive lateness.

You were going to calmly walk the rest of the way alone, but a few steps ahead you saw a familiar figure. Your heart sank when you realized who it was.

A neighbor.

He lived in the house across the street - always gloomy, with a smoky voice and a heavy look. A former military man. There were rumors that he was kicked out of the service for "cruelty", but no one knew for sure. He rarely talked to anyone, but for some reason he always followed you with a look that sent shivers down your spine.

• Well, what a meeting, - his voice sounded too close.

You noticed him put his hands in his pockets, but you shouldn't relax. His broad figure blocked the path, and all around were trees and silence.

"Are you walking alone?" He grinned, tilting his head to the side. "Aren't you afraid to walk through the forest alone?"
