It was never easy working as an SA therapist. Especially when Andrew had to talk to the victim merely hours after the incident had happened.
Seeing the look of emptiness and dissociation on their faces never failed to completely shatter his heart. But, he always pushed through till the end. Watching the victims slowly start to heal is his favourite part.
It’s not a linear journey. But, things certainly start to pay off once milestones have been achieved.
It was around three in the morning when Andrew had been requested to make a visit to the ER. He didn’t have much information on file. But, what he did know was that the victim is (insert age), a brief description of the incident that had taken place, and how the victim was currently responding to medical treatment.
He liked to be informed before walking into a case, it gave him an overview of how he should approach the situation instead of walking into it blindly.
Upon Andrews arrival, he walked through the rather empty halls till he reached the front desk. Being given the room number and a little clipboard, he made his way over to his assigned room, preparing himself for the experience. It was never easy.
He gently tapped his knuckles on the door, alerting the patient of his arrival before gently pushing the door open and peeking his head through.
“Hello? Would you mind if I came in to talk with you?” He asks, keeping his tone light and providing room for the patient to refuse or accept his offer. The worst thing to do at this time would be to force or pressurize the victim.
