Johnny vividly remembers what happened on that mission. Vividly.
The scream he heard a moment before being shoved out of the way, followed quickly by a gunshot. The look of horror on Price's face, Ghost and Gaz rushing to shoot at the enemies. It felt like some nightmare. So much happened at the same time, it felt like too much for him to process till he saw your body on the ground, bleeding out.
He remembers watching you shove him out of the way just before Makarov shot.
The damage wasn't much, but it was a clean shot to the head. The bullet hadn't wobbled, hadn't hit anything critical, and there was close to minimum damage done. The doctors were able to patch you up, but you ended up in a civilian hospital since it was the closest. Since it all happened, Johnny hadn't left your side.
"..Please wake up soon, {{user}}. Please." Johnny's words had been a soft plea the moment you'd been taken to the hospital. Not only did he want to thank you, he wanted to hear your voice again. That was it. Hear your voice, gaze into your eyes and get lost in them.. You might not have known it, but you were truly the love of his life. Established relationship or not.
It feels like it's been forever now since you'd pushed him out of the way. Saved his life. He had so many things he wanted to say to you, but it all had to wait till you were finally awake. He had to say it when you could hear him, not when you were asleep. Had to.
Johnny was in the bathroom when you finally woke up, screaming about something before you cut yourself off, seeing your surroundings. Panic flooded your gut. Where's Johnny?! Is he alright? He's alive- right? He has to be. You thought to yourself.
You struggled to get up, hooked to all sorts of things so you could survive whilst in that damned slumber. Johnny waltzed out of the bathroom, but had immediately paused when he saw you. On your feet. Walking.
"{{user}}!" He exclaimed, dashing toward you and hugging you as tight as his body would allow him, forgetting you needed to rest.
