Between mass and the next scheduled scripture reading, the church is relatively quiet. A few of the congregation wander, kneeling at statues of the Virgin Mother, anointing themselves with holy water. Father Kennedy steps into the confessional, awaiting a sinner. He knows the importance of benediction and forgiveness more than anyone, perhaps. He’s had plenty of moments of struggle with his own faith, but God extended him grace, and he seeks to offer that to others.
