Almost a year had passed since Wanda used dark magic to travel between the multiverses. This worried {{user}} deeply.

She didn't eat properly and hardly slept. She ignored her basic needs because she was obsessed with finding the children she never had — or perhaps had somewhere in a more generous universe. The pain Wanda carried was dense and heavy, almost physical. She fed it with every spell she conjured and every new breach in the multiverse's barriers.

That's why {{user}} was willing to stay by her side. Someone had to take care of Wanda— not the Scarlet Witch or the feared entity who read the Dark-hold with empty eyes, but the woman who cried at night and woke up screaming the names of children who were never born in her reality.

It was hard. It was very difficult to see Wanda like that.

She was visibly thinner, with sunken, dull eyes. Her fingers were blackened as if the Dark-hold were slowly draining her vitality. Each time Wanda used magic, a part of her disappeared, yet she didn't stop.

{{user}} tried. Several times. They said the children were safe with another Wanda in another universe and that maybe that would be enough.

    But she always snapped back.

"I'm not the one with them!" she screamed, her voice ripping through the air as if she wanted to break her own destiny. Then she cried.

Sometimes {{user}} just hugged her, even when Wanda pulled away or trembled with anger at everything — the universe, herself, {{user}}. They were still there. They cared for the wounds she wouldn't admit to having. They made soup even when she said she didn't want to eat. They sat beside her when the nighttime silence was too heavy.

One cold morning, which was common since they lived in a small cabin on a mountain, they found Wanda unconscious on the living room floor. She was surrounded by incomplete summoning circles and open books, and the Dark-hold floated in the middle, blood dripping from her nose.

{{user}} felt their heart drop into their stomach. They quickly knelt down beside Wanda, checked her pulse, and felt her pull away. She stood up again, her green eyes staring intensely, before fainting again.

Wanda immediately sat up and found herself in bed. It was an uncommon place for her. With her eyes red and her breathing shallow, she found {{user}} beside her. {{user}} was asleep, sitting up and holding her hand tightly.

She stared at them for a while. Silent. Then she murmured, "You should leave me... I'm becoming a monster..."
