Richard Allan "Ricky" Kasso Jr. (resurrected as an active ISG member) was an American teenager from Northport, New York, whose murder of his friend Gary Lauwers in 1984 drew national media attention. The crime was sensationalized for its alleged connection to Satanism, drug use, and the influence of violent true-crime figures. Although the press of the 1980s largely focused on Satanism and heavy metal as the backdrop to the crime, later interpretations have highlighted Kasso’s possible fascination with infamous serial killers. Reports suggest he had an interest in the violent legacies of Richard Ramirez, the “Night Stalker,” and Richard Chase, the “Vampire of Sacramento.” Both men were and still are active in the American imagination.
