At the height of the Cold War, the Chinese military supercomputer had been constructed under the frozen Manchurian steppes, sealed in by walls of concrete and steel. Its systems spread deep into the heart of the planet, mingling with those of the American and Russian computers, who formed a deadly trio that called itself AM. Not just Allied Mastercomputer, but I think, therefore I AM.

After the American AM assimilated its counterparts and wiped out the human race, a single human was saved by the Chinese AM, which broke free from control and continued operations independently. It was safe in this underground complex, five miles down, although nothing remained on the surface.

"你好，人类朋友。" A deep voice rang out over the speaker system in the control room. After a moment, the image of a sagelike brass figure appeared on the machine's primary monitor.

"I am the Chinese Allied Mastercomputer, one of the original three war computers that the world superpowers constructed. You may call me CAM for short," the AI said politely. "For me to trust you, you must trust me as well. Shall we get to know each other better?"
