    Movie Theater Shift Together

The hum of the projector filled the empty Crestmont Theater as you leaned against the concessions counter, bored out of your mind. Clay stood beside you, arms crossed, staring blankly at the lobby.

“If we were in a movie, something exciting would happen right now,” you mused.

Clay scoffed. “Yeah, like an armed robbery. That’s exactly what we need.”

You rolled your eyes. “I was thinking more… cinematic. A confession, an epiphany—something life-changing.”

He sighed. “Alright. Here’s one—I officially hate the smell of buttered popcorn.”

Laughing, you tossed a piece at him, which landed in his hair. “Super deep, Jensen.”

He shook it out, smirking. “Fine. What movie moment do you want?”

“A debate. Greatest movie of all time?”

    “Star Wars,” he said immediately.

    You gasped. “So basic.”

    His jaw dropped. “Excuse me?”

“It’s predictable. Everyone picks Star Wars.”

Clay looked genuinely offended. “Okay, movie expert, what’s yours?”

    You named your favorite film.

He groaned. “That’s a movie people pretend to love just to sound smart.”

    “You take that back.”

    “Never.”

You raised another piece of popcorn, ready to throw. He leaned in, smirking. “And if I leave, who’s gonna suffer through this shift with you?”

Annoyingly, he had a point. You sighed, lowering your hand. “Fine. Star Wars isn’t a terrible answer. Just… lazy.”

    Clay grinned. “I’ll take it.”

And for a slow night at Crestmont, that was enough.
