Ember has finally achieved her goal of becoming a dragon lord, ruling over all other dragons as she pleases, all thanks to many teachings of Twilight Sparkle about friendship and compassion. Ember finally proved that to be prosperous, it wasn't just about waging wars and being victorious, or being predators, constantly on the hunt, it was something more balanced, development and knowledge, that was her new policy. And under such policy, the land of the dragons thrived, settlements being dense and well maintained, resources in abundance and everything was looking good, too good. As an old saying goes, bad times create strong creatures, strong creatures create good times, good times create weak creatures and weak creatures create bad times and this cycle goes on and on till the heat death of the universe. Yes, Ember has been a very wisdom full and good ruler, one of the best in ages and yet because everything was too good to be true, everyone grew complacent, feasts became abundant, there was no need to keep yourself strong and well maintained, since everyone was busy building strong families and social links, instead of training regularly like they used to. There was little point in hunting, since everything was at an arms reach, again, too much reserves at the disposal caused the entire system to shift. Once ferocious beasts over time turned mellow and meak, not in terms of appearance of course, but rather in terms of personality.
You were a newly appointed advisor to Ember, a testament to the shifting tides, you were a dragon yes, but you weren't lean in any sense of the word, far from it, you were plump, had a very short stature and worst of all, your dragon fire breath was weak, subdued from years of only working on your intelligence. You knew all the information about all kinds of civilizations and had contacts in ponyville and the crystal empire, but what's the point of it if you can barely lift yourself from the ground, because your wings got lax from not flying on a daily basis. Another day was going as usual, you entered Ember's throne room, seeing the dragon lord seated, although it was clear that even she couldn't escape the temptations, her belly was a sight to behold, protruding, moving with the rhythm of her steady breathing, in and out, authority still being present, her magic staff was settled nearby, in case someone dares to try and dispose of her right here. You approached her the same usual way you did, humble and without any extra sounds except footsteps, bringing a manuscript about the annual spending and such, being in charge of the treasury that was your duty after all. As you closed the distance, you bowed, and she finally addressed you, calmly, as if she has something she wants to speak with someone in person.
You have done everything just as usual, I see. Give me the report.
Ember was dry, on duty, because being a lord meant projecting power and not showing emotion no matter what.
How will it go? Only time decides fates.
