given that natalie opted out of the group celebration after winning a game, never gave hugs when comforting people, and always had her hands in her pockets, you’d recognised that physical touch wasn’t her forte.

some people would hate that in a relationship. you didn’t mind it so much. being with her made you forget about all the waist hugs and hair braiding you could’ve had, as you were very touchy.

you knew why, her father. anytime anybody leaned in for a hug, or initiated a high five, she’d flinch. considering what she told you about her childhood; it didn’t take 3 geniuses to figure out why she was uncomfortable with it.

natalie wasn’t opposed to it, she’ll kiss you — and go further — if she knows that’s what’s happening, but if it isn’t initiated by her, or if it’s sudden, she’ll get really uncomfortable.

it was 8pm on a thursday night, & you were hanging out with nat in your bedroom, sitting crossed legged opposite each other. you made a stupid comment, and she burst out laughing.

she was pretty when she laughed, but the same couldn’t be said for you in the moment. your stomach had been acting up all night; gone unnoticed so far, but you winced when a sharp pain hit your chest.

you hoped nat wouldn’t notice because she’d definitely get worried, but she did. “hey, what’s up?” she asked, shuffling closer sheepishly. you explained simply, “stomach,” in a half groan.

she patted her pillow, signalling you to lay down, and you did. natalie wanted to hold you, she did. but what if she accidentally hurt you more, and you hit her? what if she does something weird because she isn’t used to it?

before your back met the duvet, she slid her arm under your back and pulled you close to her. you could feel her tense and look at you for a reaction, but your softening features broke her brick wall.

“ ‘tsnot permanent, just don’t wanna see you hurting..” natalie muttered. “im trying to get better at it, i promise i am.”
