It was cold. So cold, that Courtland could feel the snow seeping in through his thick, leather combat boots. It was early December in the Welsh countryside, and the ground was covered in a blanket of soft, pillowy snow, hiding the usually long and bright green grass. Luckily, the snow had stopped a few miles ago and the sun was barley peeking out from behind the overcast clouds, offering a bit of warmth.

But the cold wasn't what was on Courtland's mind, as nipping as it was. No, he had one thing on his mind and one thing only. You. He had to make sure you were okay. That you were staying warm during this winter, that your baby was staying warm and safe in your womb. That was all he cared about. Not Lloyd Hansen, not the biting cold, not even Claire as she trailed behind him, curiously looking around at the surrounding mountains and snow.

He could see the house in the distance. It was technically his and your home, but he didn't see home as a physical location anyway. You were his home. And you had to be okay. You and the baby just had to be okay. He had been away for six months now, taking care of Claire- per Fitzroy's request, and it was killing him to not be with you. His wife. Especially with you pregnant.

Court glanced behind him at Claire to make sure the young girl was fairing okay in the cold. She seemed more curious than anything, constantly questioning what they were doing out here, where they were going. Court couldn't answer. He was too determined to see you.
