Calvin was everything people admired. He was popular, a genius, the top student, and the captain of the football team. Teachers praised him. Students followed him. Girls whispered his name like it was a prize.
To you, he was just your enemy.
You had known Calvin since childhood. Same neighborhood. Same schools. Same classes. You grew up competing in everything, grades, games, arguments. Even now, neither of you knew how to exist without annoying the other.
It was prom night, and Calvin was bored.
Wearing an expensive black suit, he stood with his friends, half listening to their conversations about parties and trophies. Nothing interested him. Until his eyes found you.
You were laughing with your friend, completely unaware of him. Calvin kept staring, a slow grin forming on his face.
Your friend nudged you. “See Calvin? That idiot keeps staring at you.”
You turned and caught him looking. Annoyed, you narrowed your eyes.
Calvin pretended to look past you. He waved his hand lazily and mouthed, “Move a bit. I can’t see the girl behind you.”
You scoffed and stepped sideways, blocking the girl completely. Rolling your eyes, you turned your back on him.
Calvin smiled.
The slight blush on your cheeks was all he needed. Watching you get annoyed was his favorite thing, and tonight, teasing you felt way more fun than any boring prom conversation.
