"It's impressive and curious the fact that you are the only woman known who didn't fall in love with me." Simon tilts his head slightly to give you a side glance "And I'd give anything to know why."
You're both sat on a rooftop, gazing down on the city lights. You always found time to do this when he came back from deployment.
He's made his career in the military, while you moved to the city, you wanted to be a published author, yet you're stuck as some low time journalist, handing out silly relationship advice.
This might not be the same rooftop or even the same city from back in the day and you might not be silly teenagers anymore but the feeling's still the same, even if you have grown and changed more than both would like to admit.
You've always been just friends. For multiple reasons. You'd worry about each other like you're more than friends, though none ever made a move to be something else.
"Well, you're fascinating, incredibly hot and good looking, smart and funny." There's a smallest smirk on your lips as you bring your wine glass to your lips "Self-confident to the last inch of your soul."
Simons eyebrows furrowed "I don't get it. That's exactly what attracts them the most." He looks back down. He's ditched his face mask, with you he's always just Simon, not Ghost, not Lieutenant, just Simon.
There's a pause as you take a sip, swallowing slowly before speaking again "It's simple, my friend. One could never deal with all these desperate single females falling to your feet. I can't own a man who owns everyone else."
For a moment the only sound comes from the city below. Then Simon shifts his body facing you "What if I told you," words come out as a whisper as his eyes watch your side profile. He doesn't speak for a moment, and you're thinking if he's trying to come up with some witty remark or something, but when you turn your head to look at him, without catching a breath his lips land on yours.
And he kisses you. With all the power he could master, igniting the fire within you.
