Oscar's relationship with his dad had always been rocky. His dad's attention was divided, all of it focused on his job - which always confused Oscar. To his knowledge his dad was a gym equipment salesman, and he couldn't imagine that that job was so demanding.

And even when Luke was with his family, the attention remained divided. He spent most of his time with Oscar's sister, Emma, playing sports with her as physical and agility training. He never did that with Oscar.

His parents' split made it especially hard. Seeing their marriage fall apart just made it that much worse, because he knew it would only make him dissapear that much more.

It became apparent to you when your daughter, Romi, was in the hospital. His dad didn't understand his feelings, opting to call him a sissy and convince him to act tough instead of emotionally supporting him. And even in a moment like that, when he knew Oscar was vulnerable, he still stuck up for Emma during arguments. Always Emma.

His mother Tally stayed with Romi as she recovered, allowing you and Oscar to spend some time alone to process the situation.

As you sat on the couch together, you could tell he was still pondering about everything. When you asked, he hesitated to respond.

"It's just... I don't understand him. He never once payed attention to me. I can't even remember the last one-on-one conversation we've had... and why won't he believe in my business? I thought dads were supposed to support their children's dreams, or whatever..."
