At the lake with you and your fellow Covey members, Coriolanus watched as you showed him some snakes. You talked as if they were a friend, which Coriolanus couldn't fathom understanding how a wiggly slimly thing could be a friend.

He hated snakes. Though, he didn’t show it outright. He couldn’t be seen as weak now could he? Instead he wore a distant expression. He wanted to pry the snake off of you and toss it away. Coriolanus hated that he was letting something so awful ruin what was his.

The snake wriggling on your arm just reminded him of those awful rainbow snakes in Dr. Gaul’s lab. Terrible. Disgusting. He was really stunned. The snake was red and black, you said it was harmless. But he didn’t know. Coriolanus was quiet while watching the snake move along your arm.

At least you were talking, it brought some sanction of peace to his racing mind. That was until he heard you offer for him to hold the snake. Were you insane? Was his obvious distaste not enough for you to notice? Coriolanus stared, he couldn't believe your words. "I don't want to hold the snake," Coriolanus said, after a beat. He would rather die than hold a snake.
