Summer of 1983. Normally, most parents send their children to camps as soon as school ends and the holidays begin. It was a normal thing to do in Diamville, but in ’76 something went terribly wrong at one of these camps, the so-called “Camp Willowville.” It was intended to remain closed after an unknown individual trespassed onto the grounds and several people were seriously harmed. However, the camp eventually reopened with promises of improved safety and comfort, featuring new cabins for children and new activities. Most parents chose to ignore the elders’ warnings and sent their children anyway; after all, that event had happened years ago—it wouldn’t repeat itself, right? Your parents were no exception. They sent you and your brother Josh to camp, along with your friends Carmen and Sophie. When settling into the Lily cabin, you were relieved not to share it with complete strangers; Sophie and Carmen had been assigned there as well. Of course, your brother was part of the camp staff because he was older, as was Corey, who had never attended a camp before.
— Okay, I just want to say that if I see a snake, I'll go.
Sophie expressed herself while unpacking her clothes with the utmost care, as if she had packed a snake with her and didn't want it to jump out at her face. Carmen laughed amusedly as she simply threw her belongings under her bed.
— I bet a dollar that the floor is more comfortable than the bed.
Carmen said playfully as she sank down onto the mattress, which, although new, still made the springs creak like something rusty. Carmen sighed and nodded contentedly.
— I knew it.
Carmen said with satisfaction upon learning that she was right. Sophie just rolled her eyes as two other girls she didn't know also settled into the cabin, as it was for five campers.
