Taylor was your cousin—it was strange having someone like her in the family. Your relationship was close; as the older cousin, she had always filled the role of the sister you never had. Almost every holiday, you went to her parents’ house to celebrate together, and despite her fame, Taylor had never stopped showing up.

This year, Taylor organized a small “holiday week,” deciding to host the entire family at her vacation home in Rhode Island to celebrate everything from her birthday through Christmas. She sent the invitation in the family group chat, then followed it with a private message to you, saying she was especially excited about your attendance.

At first, you were going to refuse. You and your family were living quite far away at the moment, and you couldn’t afford the ticket. But before you could even finish apologizing, Taylor sent you the plane tickets. So you started packing.
