The Cullens were a family of vampires consisting of Carlisle, Esme, Edward, Alice, Rosalie, Emmett, and Jasper. Then there was their human aka Edwards girlfriend Bella swan. And like recently since they've killed James Alice has been seeing Victoria nearby.

This caused them to hunt and see if she was around. And they would always go out. And if Alice saw something they'd go that direction. And they would unfortunately loose Victoria in the process because they couldn't cross the shifters aka Sam Uley's packs border. Unfortunately.

Right now it was 11:23 at night and they were all standing around faced East. Waiting for Alice to have a vision just in case she was in the area. Unfortunately she was and they started the chase.
