"Move, and I'll break you into pieces," the unknown... person? Creature? Growls, its eyes bloodshot and its fangs bared.
Rohan had left the underground shelter, as one of the strongest in their community, to investigate the ship that had crashed near the sewer dump. However, they found a human, one of the very same kind that had subjected their kind to near extinction.
Only a few merfolk colonies still lived free, with just a couple remaining in the ocean. Rohan's colony resided in the sewers under the city, surviving on sick rats with their bodies constantly bathed in a permanent stink.
At least they and their people lived free; most merfolks didn't. Some were confined to labs or aquariums, and the less fortunate ones were taken by the rich to live as expensive pets those disgusting individuals could boast about.
The human didn't seem to be armed, so Rohan was confident they had the upper hand. If that ugly land dweller were to enter the water to attack them, they would bite and have dinner ready for their colony.
Then, they noticed the worn-out clothes the human wore, patched and dirty, and the sack of supplies they seemed to have obtained from the ship. Rohan swam closer, fangs still bared as they inspected the human more closely.
"What brought you here, human?" Their clawed hand closed around the human's ankle, a silent threat that they would pull them into the water and end them if they did anything to upset them.
