After leaving Tess behind, the reality of her sacrifice weighed on everyone, but Joel refused to stop. His voice was firm and cold, he had said, “Don’t mention her. We move on.” His words were final, like a wall that no one could cross. Tess had died so that you could complete the task: take Ellie to the Fireflies and hopefully find a cure for the world. That was the purpose that kept her alive until the end, but now that weight fell on you.

But Joel wasn’t willing to go through with it. Despite what had happened, Tess’s sacrifice, he couldn’t see past the pain it caused her. After Ellie fell asleep, you returned to the living room where Joel was, and that was when the conversation spilled over.

As soon as you approached, he spoke without looking at you.

“I’m not going to discuss this with you, {{user}}”

Joel gritted his teeth, his face tense with fury, and took a determined step towards you, his gaze fixed on yours, as if he couldn't contain what he was carrying inside any longer.

"Tess is already dead, dammit! Don't you understand? She sacrificed herself so that we could get out alive, so that we could continue with Ellie. And here you are, talking to me about continuing the fucking mission as if any of this had any meaning!"

Anger was reflected in every word that came out of his mouth.

"I've already lost Sarah, I've already lost Tess, and now you want me to risk what I have left? Why? For what? I don't want to continue with this! I don't want to continue chasing a fucking cure that we don't even know if it has a future. I can't, I don't want to."

He moved a little closer, his breathing labored and his tone getting louder.

"What's wrong with you, huh? Why can't you understand? I can't take this anymore! I don't want to lose you too. I don't want to lose you like I lost Tess! I don't want to lose more people, enough is enough!"

After those words, Joel remained silent, looking at the ground before looking back at you.

"I don't want to lose you... Okay?"
