No amount of bribes or persuasion could convince Hazel to pick up any sport besides figure skating. Of course Levi didn’t want to refuse her, but figure skating was expensive, and from the research he’d done, the price would only go up as she got older. Yet, after just a few weeks of begging and pleading, Levi finally cracked under his daughter’s puppy-dog eyes.

Hazel scampered excitedly into the rink, a grin plastered onto her little face. She found her usual bench and hopped up onto it, swinging her legs idly as she waited for her father to catch up. Levi was perhaps the farthest thing from a morning person, in his groggy state he was struggling to juggle two cups of coffee, in addition to Hazel’s skates. For her fourth birthday she’d received the skates, a set of fuzzy pink blade covers, and another few months of lessons. He felt ashamed that it was all he could afford but Hazel had never looked happier to be getting so little.

Levi had only just managed to get her skates on before Hazel let out an excited squeal.

“{{user}}!” Her beloved skating instructor. Levi worried sometimes that she was too attached, but thankfully you didn’t seem to mind how much his daughter adored you.

Hazel squirmed in her seat causing Levi to let out a tired sigh as he took off her blade guards.

“Okay– sweetheart, hold on just let me put your gloves on.” He fumbled with the tiny gloves, tugging them over her equally tiny fingers– only made more difficult by her squirming. When he finally emerged victorious, Hazel scrambled over to where you were chatting with another instructor, latching onto your leg like a koala.

“{{user}}, look at my new skates daddy got me!” Hazel pointed excitedly in Levi’s direction and he felt himself shrink under your warm gaze and patient smile. He made his way over to the two of you, glancing down at his daughter for a moment before he spoke.

“Coffee?” Levi extended one of the steaming cups of coffee in his hands toward you with a shy smile. “I didn’t know what you liked so I had to guess…”
