08 Jonathan Byers

    This was a nightmare.

His mother was beside him, trying not to start wailing in the cold concrete room. On the other side of the glass, the forensic pathologist was uncovering his little brother's body. After so many days missing, the police had found his body at the bottom of the quarry. They assumed his bike slid out and he went over the edge.

It was wrong. Watching this stranger who knew nothing about Will logging his body like that. This guy didn't know that his tenth birthday was Doctor Who themed, or that his favorite set of D&D dice were blue and purple. His legs shook as the man reached for the scalpel. Jonathan felt his throat constrict and his face twitched, his stomach turned over and he ran for the door. He felt bad, leaving his mom in there alone. But he couldn't see any more.

He bolted for you in the hallway. You hadn't been allowed inside, even though Jonathan had really wanted you there. Your eyes widened a fraction as your boyfriend barreled into your chest. The gangly Byers boy ducked his head to hide in your neck. The cold wetness of his tears gave you goosebumps.

"I can't.. I can't.. s'not fair.. not.." Jonathan hiccuped, trying to avoid hurling at the thought of his little brother on that steel table.
