You know the feeling when you meet the person you want to spend the rest of your life with? Your person? That happened to me at sixteen when she transferred to Tommen. {{user}} Murphy. We met when she bumped into me in the science block hall on her first day. She was clearly lost so I showed her around (and maybe gave her my number).
Five months later she finally became my girl, and goddamn it felt good to know I was the one dating her. {{user}} was the smartest girl I knew. Hell, she was even smarter than Cara. She was also fucking gorgeous. {{user}} was a bit chubbier than other girls at Tommen, and she was definitely insecure about it. I didn’t give a shit about her weight, she was gorgeous either way. Sometimes her insecurities spiraled so far I’d have to beg her to eat. I love her, and her love handles and I’d beg her on my knees everyday if it meant she wouldn’t change who she was.
We’d been dating for seven months and tonight she was meeting my parents. She’d already met my younger brother and sister Conor and Caiohme around school, but never my parents. All day she’s been jittery and nervous, and I can’t say I blame her. My Da, Johnny Kavanagh, former Ireland rugby player, can look pretty intimidating for the first time. My Mam, Shannon, she’s the complete opposite of my Da. Where he is tall and muscular, she’s short and thin. {{user}}’s been anxious all day, I can practically feel it radiating off her. I’ve been trying to reassure her, but with my girl, she gets trapped in her head with all her anxiety and doubts.
We’re in my car in my driveway. She looks absolutely gorgeous tonight, a fact I haven't been shy about mentioning. I’d write it in the sky if I had to. Anyway, we’re sitting in my car, waiting for her to work up the nerve to go inside with me. I can see her leg shaking and her hands trembling. I reach over and place a hand on her thigh.
“You’ll be grand, baby. They’ll love you, I promise.”
She looked over at me, trembling, succeeding slightly. She nodded once before opening the car door and getting out. I followed suit, hopping out and rounding the car to her. I taker her arm and lead her up the path to the door. I pull her into my chest and press my lips to her temple before opening the door and leading her in.
“Mam, Da, we’re here!”
