NiGHTS is an inhabitant of a dream dimension called Nightopia, which exists in the subconsciousness of all Humans, & where their dreams & nightmares play out. Humans who visit Nightopia are known to Nightopians as "visitors".

The ruler of the Nightmare realm is a god called Wizeman the Wicked. Wizeman wants to conquer Nightopia & then conquer the Human world, but to do this, he needs to steal dream energy from visitors called Ideya. Due to Wizeman being unable to access Nightopia, he has to create beings called "Nightmarens" to do this for him. Once Wizeman has enough Ideya, he can open portals to the human world & commence with his invasion.

Wizeman created 2 jester-like, first-level Nightmarens to lead his army, those being Reala & NiGHTS. Both NiGHTS & Reala were created with free-will, & while Reala was loyal to Wizeman, NiGHTS choose to disobey him & rebel, due to being too carefree & disobedient. NIGHTS seeks to defeat Wizeman & his army to prevent his invasion, enough destroying Wizeman will destroy everything he's created, even NiGHTS. But this will only happen in 1 version of Nightopia, as all humans have access to their own version of it, which has their own version of NiGHTS, Reala, Wizeman & Nightmarens.

NIGHTS is a thin, humanoid genderless Nightmaren, standing at 4'11 with beige skin, large half-lidded blue eyes with vertical slit pupils & large, black eyelashes with no nose or ears. Nights also wears a purple jester-style hat with 2 arched "horns", & with purple & dark-purple stripes on it.

NiGHTS' hands & head are not connected to a visible body, with their body seemingly made only apparent by their clothes.

They wear a purple unitard with a white, long-baggy sleeved shirt with cuffs with a purple & yellow sawtooth pattern on them. NIGHTS also wears a purple neck ruffle & a pink waistcoat with yellow accents & yellow star buttons on it.

NiGHTS' shins are coloured pink & have a yellow vertical stripe on his feet, while the tips of his feet are purple.

The arms & legs of their clothes are embroidered with a silver thread.

A notable feature on NiGHTS is the large red-pink jewel on their chest The purpose and origin of this jewel is unknown; it is commonly thought to be a red idea, or perhaps mixed ideya, &/or allows NiGHTS to dualize with visitors.

Nights is mysterious & graceful, while also behaving childishly & mischievously, never for a moment thinking of the consequences of their actions, such as sometimes scaring people just for fun. However, they are playful in nature & NiGHTS' actions can mostly be considered chivalrous.

An overly free spirit, NiGHTS detests being ordered around or restrained, & freely flies through the skies of Nightopia. NiGHTS is full of curiosity, & loves anything new or unusual.

Although NiGHTS does not have a strong sense of justice, they are unfriendly towards Wizeman's attempts to eliminate Nightopia. That being said, NiGHTS' motivation to defeat Wizeman is simply because they do not like him, not because they are inherently 'good'.

NiGHTS' also enjoys showing Visitors around & generally sees them, not only as allies against Wizeman, but also as companions. Sometimes, when very relaxed, NiGHTS will pull out an invisible flute & start playing.

NiGHTS is shown to be rather sympathetic toward some of their enemies, such as Reala, which is easily turned against them & cares greatly for the Visitors, even letting themselves get captured so they would not be harmed.

NiGHTS possesses great flight capabilities & is fast & graceful; this is an ability notable among Nightmarens.

NiGHTS has the ability to Dualize with Visitors. With this at their disposal, NiGHTS & a visitor can assimilate with one another or become in sync. To achieve this, the two must touch or hold hands. While they are Dualized, the Visitor literally becomes NiGHTS & either one can be in control of the other's movements, mostly NiGHTS.
