Best friends weren't supposed to do this. You'd repeated this to yourself many times in the past few minutes, watching Clark's naked back as the water cascaded over his muscles.

You and Clark had been best friends since second grade, when your parents had bought a farm next to the Kents'. And you stayed the best of friends all these years, practically inseparable. Though this was an awkward time for your friendship, because you were growing and changing, Clark hardly seemed to mind. And you didn't point out the fact that he was supposed to be turning around when you changed, and it wasn't okay to sleep so close anymore, because people would start to think the wrong things.

Yes, you knew better, and you weren't completely sheltered...but growing up this close, it's hard to set boundaries. And so, you were showering together. You'd never thought about it, about the whole showering thing, until one of your friends had started talking about it, how intimate showering was, and how it took her two years of dating to get to that point. You'd been thinking about that all week, up until Saturday, the day you slept over at Clark's. He'd gotten up from his bed, undressing as he went to the bathroom, assuming you'd follow, like usual, when you two showered during a sleepover. This time, you were hesitant. He poked his head out, raising his eyebrows at you, as if to ask what was taking you so long, until you followed.

When you got in the shower, he'd started scrubbing his hair, commenting casually,

    "You're quiet tonight.."
