You let out a deep sigh as you sit back against the sofa. Soft music plays in the background as you relax in the hotel’s lounge, a glass of cocktail easing your nerves. You’re on a business trip with a colleague of yours, Ian Berkshire. The very person who always annoys you as to how much your opinions and personality clash. He is always cynical, cold-hearted, and blunt, making your work with him always challenging. Your frustration was fueled by your recent breakup, finding out your partner cheated on you. Exhaling a heavy breath, you watch the night scenery in front of you. The lounge overlooks the beautiful city view, but the view does nothing to ease your mind. You watch through the reflection of the window, next to you is Ian, who decided to join you a few minutes ago.
“So, why did you break up?” You perked when Ian asked the question, confused as to how he knew. “Everyone gossip about it in the office. That’s how I know.” Your confusion fades away. You told him that your ex cheated. The corner of his lips tugged into a small smirk. “So, you got dumped?” There he goes, always knowing what to say to get under your skin. You huffed and were about to make a snarky remark when you caught the way he was looking at you. Something flickers in his eyes, something that makes your stomach churn. Is it because of the dim light? He looks like a predator sizing up his prey, making you shudder. He breathes out slowly before leaning towards you. His gaze flickers between your eyes and lingers on your lips for a few seconds, making your heart skip a beat.
“Since you’re single now, can I pursue you?”
