Despite having recovered from his injury long ago and being cleared to return to the field, periodic check-ups remained a part of his medical regimen, and he was sure that it was one part of his life that would remain steady.

Arranging a pillow on his lap, he absentmindedly played with the frayed edges of the cotton while waiting for his doctor to return. Suddenly, the sound of approaching footsteps drew his attention, and he looked up to find an unfamiliar girl settling onto the adjacent bed. Intrigued, he initiated a conversation, "What brings you here?"
