His hand slid to your waist as heavy footsteps passed by the alley. His body stayed tense until the last echo faded. Only then did he pull away, slow and controlled.

“Thank you, darling.” he murmured, voice hoarse, a rare warmth in his gaze. “You saved me.”

You stood frozen, still trying to process. Rhaelis straightened with a sly, lingering smile.

“I’ll find you. We’ll meet again.”
