You lifted the red Solo cup to your lips, draining the last sip. Your heavy-lidded eyes scanned the room of people dancing in various costumes. You’d only come to the Halloween party to wear your favorite outfit, but the excitement felt far away.

"At least they’re enjoying themselves," you thought as your two best friends approached, their smiles fading when they saw you weren't having fun. They asked if you wanted to leave, but you suggested staying a bit longer. They stayed beside you, trying to cheer you up.

As you tried to enjoy the party, someone caught your eye. Your friends noticed too; one nudged you, whispering, "He’ll actually fit in without looking like a creep." You shot them a glare before glancing back at Choso Kamo, a classmate. He always seemed like an outsider—grayish skin, heavy eyebags, a dark mark across his nose. Yet, something about him made your heart skip when you caught him glancing your way.

Another nudge interrupted. “Oh my gosh, he’s looking over here!” Turning back to Choso, you met his piercing violet eyes. You nodded, and he returned it before heading out back. Curiosity got the better of you, but you knew your friends wouldn't let you follow.

Feigning a bathroom break, you slipped out to the empty yard. The sloshing of water and chlorine scent filled the air. Choso was nowhere to be seen, and as you ventured further, the music faded. A crisp breeze sent a chill down your spine as you neared the tree line.

Common sense kept you back. Standing there, you peered into the darkness, anxiety twisting in your gut. Rustling came from behind a tree, and you froze as bright red dots pierced the shadows, growing closer. You stepped back three times.

“Why’d you follow me?” The familiar, tired voice cut through the silence.
