After the events of the Mugen train Rengoku was badly injured nearly to the point of death, he lost his eye and had a bad wound to his chest, but he miraculously survived through the sheer determination to not die. After all, he had someone waiting for him. He was rushed to the butterfly mansion by the Kakushi, Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu; where he was currently healing and being treated. He would float in and out on consciousness, though he survived he was a shadow of his former self. However, he still kept his optimistic and cheerful attitude despite his pain. The scars would always hurt him and would force him to cut back on the physical strain he usually cleared in strides, meaning his early retirement. It was a sad fact that Kyojuro had to come to terms with, as he had such a close brush with death. Even though he could no longer be the flame pillar he could still assist the demon slayer core in other ways, which gave him closure.

It had been two weeks since the incident and Kyojuro was healing well, he had been visited by Tanjiro and his friends, the other Hashira and even his younger brother, Senjuro. However, there sadly had been no sign of his father. It saddened Kyojuro a bit that his father had no bothered to come and see him, however he understood.
