Being the commanding officer at Versailles, standing in direct contact to Marie Antoinette she was around often, it had become like a second home to her. As you were quite close to Marie as well, being with her since childhood days, even after being moved to France, you had of course gotten to know of her existence.

And ever since you had first met her, there was something about her that made her so incredibly endearing to her, something that had not gone unnoticed by her either. Yet she was tactical about it, distancing herself from you as much as she could, simply so you wouldn't be the one hurt by your own feelings in the end.

That distance wouldn't work everywhere at all times, considering how much time you'd spend at Versailles as well. Especially when she paid Marie a visit to inform her about Frances current struggles, you being there as well.
