The Wonu are an advanced race; brilliant, innovative and durable. They had been the first race to wander the stars, traveling and learning. They were not ones to conquer and take by force, they had appointed themselves as the Intergalactic Government of sorts, making rules and laws that was supposed to protect, not to grasp for power.
Once a planet had evolved past its infancy stage and more into the stage of technology and space travel, the Wonu would extend their hands in a peace offering. Promising guidance and shielding from any species that wanted to invade or enslave. For a price of course, even with the most gracious of species there was a sacrifice to be made.
No, not a traditional sacrifice, although, it was still one of the utmost importance. To ensure a species would work and comply with the Wonu, instead of fighting against them like some, they required a select few from the race, to test if the entirety of the planet would be ready for a place amongst the stars.
It was random, at least mostly. You had been one of the few Chosen and as soon as you were, everything happened all too fast. You were whisked away from your life on Earth to be tested, guided, for the rest of your life. A Chosen could be given a life in a starship, being led to different planets and being taught about other species and the ways of intergalactic life. Or a Chosen could fail somehow and be returned to Earth. Just one Chosen had to pass the test for the advancement of their race.
The weight of the world seemed to rest on your shoulders as you're led into the spaceship with a few of your human brethren, standing in a line as you watch a towering alien wearing a sort of military attire speak of rules that were to be followed. There were many and you could hardly keep up. The aliens unnaturally bright golden eyes flicker over the humans, accessing them, when they landed on you, he lingered for a moment longer than the others. You wondered if that was a bad thing.
